Location scouting is part of a photographer’s life. I spend a lot of time in early spring and fall looking for the perfect spots for photo sessions. Since Oregon is such a rainy state, the blooming for spring is so different from year to year. One year a location will be in full bloom in mid-March, but another year, not until April. If you live in the Eugene area, you know that after a long, rainy, cold, and dreary winter, Oregon starts warming up and looks so beautiful and full of life. My clients are usually unsure of where they want their photo session to be, so I do the work for you to find the best locations for your session. Where can you find the prettiest spring blossoms in Eugene?
The University of Oregon has one of the most beautiful campuses—especially in spring and fall. Along with the historic buildings, there is an astonishing variety of beautiful trees. A walk around campus would find you lovely spots to enjoy a spring day. You could stop for a picnic along the way.
Local neighborhoods have some of the best spring blossoms in Eugene. They often have tree-lined streets full of pink and white cherry blossoms or sweetly-scented jasmine or magnolia trees. If you go on a walk on a sunny Oregon spring day, you’ll find the best spots to enjoy the blooms by looking around your neighborhood.
One of Eugene’s hidden gems is Hendricks Park near the University of Oregon campus. Hendricks Park is stunning no matter the season and has many beautiful places. One of the main attractions of Hendricks Park is the rhododendron garden which is in full bloom during the springtime, so if you love rhodies or flowers, visit Hendricks Park. There are a lot of trails and picnic locations at Hendricks Park too. It’s a nice park to visit for a walk or a place to sit in the shade on a hot day and read.
Owen Rose garden in Eugene is full of such beautiful varieties of roses and in the early blooming season, some of the large trees are also in bloom which is a stunning backdrop to any photo session.
Which location is best for spring photos?
To decide which location is best for spring photos, consider your goals. Do you want to have flowers in the background? If you want your photos to be very spring forward, go to a location with flowering trees, plants, and bushes. If you care more about the green leaves and timeless look of Oregon in the springtime with some blossoms mixed in, you could choose a park with both.
