When you first start looking to hire a product photographer, you will find out that there are loads to choose. You will have lots of questions for them from the get-go!
In this blog, we are going to take a look at the 4 questions you should be asking before Hiring a Product Photographer.
Product Photography is a type of commercial photography that puts your products on display.
Having your products professionally photographed helps you to compete in your local marketplace, especially online. These days, most people shop online. Having beautifully curated images of your products will help them to stand out. This could lead customers to choose yours over similar, rival products.
If you are selling online, you need photos of your products that are attractive, engaging, and will stand out on all online platforms, including social media.
You don’t have to be local for me to take professional photographs of your products.
For example, during the Covid pandemic, many photographers started to work with businesses and offer professional product photography online and by mail. This works just as effectively as in person.
If you can ship your products to me, I can photograph them. Simply mail your products to me, and I will deliver you a digital folder complete with images suited to where you need to use them. Once we have finished and you are satisfied with your final gallery, I just mail the products back to you.
If you are local to the area, we will be able to schedule a full branding session. These sessions include additional images such as headshots and photos of the space where you create your products.
There are many different kinds of product photography. We can discuss in detail all of the different types and which ones are best suited to your business, but the following will give you an idea.
Lifestyle photographs showcase how the product will be used. Using a styled or curated backdrop scene, your product is introduced to your potential customer in a way that showcases a specific lifestyle and enhances the brand aesthetic.
An example of this type would be a candle burning in a living room. The candle can be styled in such a way as to create a warm and inviting home and a luxurious product for the home. Lifestyle product photos show your customer exactly how they can envision your brand in the comfort of their own home.
A modeled product photo, on the other hand, allows your product to be seen on a real-life model which is important for items like apparel or shoes. You may also want to offer modeled photos for accessories, including sunglasses and jewelry.
Another type of product photo is the flat lay photo. This is more of a functional type of photograph where your product is staged against a seamless background. This allows your customer to see every aspect of your product and helps them to make an informed decision about buying.
I recommend creating a list of all the things your product might interact with, and in a variety of different situations. You can add relevant things, including props and tools. While brainstorming your list, you can also think about creating a mood board or style guide to further help you choose which type of product photography is best suited to your brand.
There are many techniques I use to highlight your brand and products. After all, we want your brand to stand out amongst the crowd and attract buyers!
We look at everything from using brand colors and brand inspiration, to actual feedback you’ve received from your clients. This builds a connection with your clients by making your brand more personal and encourages your audience to engage with you even more.
Another way we can highlight your brand is to include you in the photos. Recent studies have shown that customers want to see the people behind the brand they are purchasing from. Including you also helps your customers get to know, like, and trust you.
I can help you to create a bank of images that represents your products as well as your business at large. You can use these for your website, social media channels, and all marketing materials.
When it comes to professional product photography for your business, there is a lot to consider.
You want to elevate your business online, as well as in your physical store or location if you have one. You want to have a selection of images you can choose across all of the different marketing channels.
