I get a lot of Eugene seniors who are anxious about their senior photo session day. That is totally understandable! There is a lot that goes into planning senior photo sessions.
The great thing is that when you have your ideas mapped out, it is really easy to have a session that goes smoothly and results in amazing photos!
In this blog, we take a look at 4 Ways you can prepare best for your Senior Photo Session.
When it comes to which season is best for your senior photos, you will find out that there are benefits and disadvantages to every season. There are some things to consider depending on the season you are in.
As a Eugene photographer, I’m very familiar with the best portrait spots around town. We will pick out a location that shows off the unique beauty of that particular season.
For a summer session, we have spectacular long and sunny days, blue skies and you can wear your favorite summer dress, sandals or cute tops. The previous class has usually graduated and it is a great time to schedule a summer portrait session, especially seniors with busy schedules and extracurricular activities.
Fall is a really great time for a senior photo session! The days are still long, and there is plenty of light but it is not as strong. The air starts to get crisp around sunset. Leaves start to fall, creating a beautiful aesthetic. During fall, you can still wear bright colors but you may want to wear boots and longer tops or jeans to be more appropriate for the temperature.
Paired with the autumnal color of the leaves, a wonderful cozy feel can be created with these photos. The breezier and cloudier weather also lends itself to create more dramatic photos to really bring out your portraits.
In contrast to fall and summer, winter senior portraits can result in even more dramatic, and fun, photos. In fact, you may think of winter as being the worst time of the year to take photos, but often times this is when some of the most memorable senior photo sessions take place!
Wintertime in Eugene can get really cold and we do have the occasional snowstorm which looks amazing in a winter wonderland style portrait. Combined with bright colors in your clothing, these photos will really stand out.
And if the weather is just too wet outside, we can always meet at an indoor location!
Creating sports or activity specific photos is a great way to incorporate your hobbies into your senior portraits. These photos serve as a memento of what you were involved in and playing, so parents especially will treasure this kind of photo.
I had one senior client who did her regular photo sessions with me and then booked another session where we highlighted her sports achievements, and also of her in her prom dress.
Such photos really do create lasting memories and make wonderful gifts for parents and grandparents too.
Another great idea is to include your cap and gown into your senior photo session. Graduation day is very busy, and often important moments can get missed. A cap and gown session gives you the chance to be photographed in a non-stressful situation and so you don’t miss out on beautiful portraits of you in our cap and gown.
It is also a fun image to toss your cap, twirl your gown, and even pose with family.
And these don’t have to be the traditional, middle of the road photo. You can definitely have a lot of fun with a cap and gown session.
Celebrate your high school journey with a session on your high school campus. We can capture photos with your friends at some of your favorite campus hangouts!
When choosing a location on campus, you want to make sure it tells a story. Even if your campus is not the most aesthetically beautiful, taking photos where you spent so much time with friends will make for a truly special final gallery.
Perhaps your school has some nice gardens, or artwork we could set up in front of. You could also have some indoor photos, perhaps in your favorite classroom. Spend some time thinking about the places you loved to hangout on campus and we can re-create a scene there.
If this is a lot to take in, then do not stress! With proper planning, senior photo sessions are really relaxed and fun.
It is important to plan ahead. If you would like to have senior portrait photos for your graduation ceremony or for party invitations, you will need plenty of time to get your photos done.
