You want the perfect senior photos, but you feel completely overwhelmed by the location choices and are struggling to know where to start!
Don’t worry – I’ve got your covered! In this blog, we look at how to choose the right location for your senior photo session. This will help you to understand your options and choose the location that is perfect for you!
Choosing a location that is meaningful to you will help customize your session. It will also create photos that are unique to you and your story.
Maybe there is a location close to your heart, like a place from your childhood. Or perhaps you have a favorite spot in nature where you grew up. You could even choose a location where you used to hang out with friends.
Consider selecting a location that is somewhere memorable and heartfelt to you, as well as a location that fits your unique style and personality. You want your senior portraits to be an honest reflection of who you are as well as a place you like!
The park is a great option for those seniors who love nature and all things outdoorsy. Also, in most cases, the lighting will be good in an outdoor, natural setting.
Choose a spot in the park where there are lush gardens, shrubbery, or even a lake or water fountain. All of these spots lend themselves well to portrait photos, especially when you are the main focus against a beautiful background.
If you decide to choose a session at the park, don’t forget to bring one outfit that you can sit in easily. This includes thinking about footwear; high-heeled shoes may not be suitable as you walk through the grass. Otherwise, bring along your favorite outfit and some accessories for your park photo session!
A portrait session down by the river sounds so romantic … and it is!
Just being by the water is incredibly relaxing, and brings out a certain peace and tranquility that will show in your smile and posture. The simplicity of this kind of location ensures your images will be timeless.
There are lots of river locations in our local area to choose from. Think about the kind of outfit that matches this location too; perhaps a traditional sundress or even just a casual jeans and T-shirt look with some boots will be perfect for this spot.
The River is a perfect backdrop for a senior portrait session. You may want to bring along your four-legged furry friend too!
Choose a downtown location if you would like a more urban or industrial feel for your photos.
You may want to capture your portrait with a backdrop of an old warehouse, historic buildings, or feature pillars, monuments, or stairways. Whichever downtown location is calling you, this is sure to make a statement in your senior photos!
In terms of dress, you may want to wear a fun dress and a pair of colorful heels to contrast with the darker colors of the buildings.
Having a senior photo session downtown can also be exciting and create buzz from the people around you which will shine through in the final photos.
Your senior portrait session is ultimately YOUR session and so the location should speak to you! I am simply here to guide you and make sure you have the best time.
