Imagine this… you’re sitting down with a grandparent, flipping through old photo albums. The photos are wrinkled and worn with time and the images are all black and white. You happen upon a photo of a young lady in a cheerleading uniform, smiling next to a tall young man in a football jersey. Your grandma explains that this photo was taken the year she and your grandpa met. You listen endearingly as she takes you back to the year their love began.
Photos are powerful. They take us back in time and tell a story of a part of our lives now gone, but preserved forever. Today we’ll talk about why senior photos are so important in telling the story of your high school experience.
Each time I have the opportunity to capture senior photos, I think of the memories being preserved and the people who might flip through an album holding these photos years from now. Maybe you’re a senior who is like I was, and the last thing on your mind is senior portraits.
I almost didn’t have my senior photos taken. As a high school student, I was not a fan of having my picture taken and really fought against the idea of “professional senior photos.” We had a family friend who was a photographer and I eventually did go and let them take my photos. When we got the previews back, my insecurities won and we didn’t order a single image. Being much older now and realizing the value of printed photos, I regret the decision. I’m actually considering contacting that same photographer to see if he has any copies of my photos (he used film back then) because I now know that senior photos matter so much and I wish I could see myself at that age again.
What kind of story do you want your senior photos to tell 20 years from now? Maybe they’ll speak of the sports you are really into, or the clubs you are a member of. Maybe, like me, they include your dog, or friends that you’re really close to. These photos paint a picture of the journey of your high school career. When we’re planning your session, from the location to your outfits, to the props you choose to bring, telling your story is my #1 goal.
Once your final gallery is delivered, you’ll have the option to order prints or an album. I highly encourage my clients to order professional prints to create a keepsake of the story we’ve recorded. These keepsakes are perfect for parents and grandparents or even to keep for your own memory. I will help you curate the products that are right for you, from beautiful framed photos to small albums for coffee tables and bookshelves.
