Today we are talking about brand imagery for your business! In the digital age that we live in, putting your best foot forward online is more important than ever. Brand imagery is incredibly beneficial to any business. Whether you’re a baker, florist, bookstore, or spa (just to name a few) it’s a necessity in this digital world to have professional images. Of course I’m a photographer so I may sound biased, but I am also a consumer. I shop online, browse business Instagrams, and see ads and posts that are shared.
You’re also a consumer! So you know what I’m talking about when I say that looking at photos online from a business account that look like they were taken professionally helps sell that product better. It makes it feel more high quality! And when I see professional photos on a business’s website or social media account, I automatically think of them as a professional business because they’ve invested in their photography and branding. Now the average person shopping your website or liking your photos may not know the psychology of WHY they like your website or service more than someone without professional photos, but at the end of the day, your professional imagery is going to stand out to that consumer because of the way you business looks.
Let’s talk this through with an easy and delicious analogy. Let’s pretend you’re own a farmstand and sell the best peaches money can buy. You know that you have a superior product that can’t be found elsewhere, but if someone can’t smell the peach, feel the fuzz, or talk with you and hear your story about the peach, what is going to make them want to come to your store or head to your website and purchase that peach? I can say without a doubt that if I’m looking at two peaches online, and one is photographed in bright natural light, with flowers surrounding it and some water droplets on it, I’m going to pick that one over a photo of a peach on a table with mediocre lighting that was taken with an iPhone.
Now, I realize you likely don’t own a peach farm, so I have a real world example for you. There is a bakery in my town that I love visiting and they have amazing treats, but if I had only looked at their website first, I don’t know if I would have visited them. It is doesn’t show the delicious things they have to offer!
With professional brand imagery, we can photograph your products and business in a unique way that will help you show up online and convince consumers of your value! And before you think that you don’t need brand imagery because you’re service based (ahem, like a photographer) let me stop you! Service based businesses need to have amazing brand imagery as well! People want to see behind the scenes. For instance as a photographer, I need to have brand imagery that reflects me and showcases the person my clients will be working with during their session. Sharing a glimpse of what goes into the work I do helps my clients trust me and want to work with me in the future.
Regardless of your business, I also want to encourage you to put yourself out there. Your customers want to see you and know who they’re buying from or working with and even know the story behind your business! I know it can be intimidating to have professional photos done of yourself and to step out in front of the camera, but it’s my job to help you feel relaxed and comfortable. I’ll help you feel natural and we will get images of you that you’ll feel confident in and actually be excited to share with your audience!
Now you may be wondering where to start, especially if you’ve never had brand imagery done before. For your first session, I would recommend having professional photographs taken of you in your workspace! We can do headshots and action shots to showcase you and what you do or sell. We can also take photos of your business location if you have a physical building or store. Then we can take photos of your products that will make them stand out on your site and social media.
Here are some examples of things we can take images for, with a few different businesses as examples.
Hair stylist: service based with in person customers
Bakery: product based
Website designer: service based with online customers
