As a Eugene senior photographer, I know how you can you make your Oregon senior photo experience wonderful! From fun prompts to bring to planning the perfect outfits to wear, there is so much to consider when planning your senior photos. Here are some tips on how to elevate your senior photo experience.
What matters to you? Do you play a sport? Do you like to read? Do you play an instrument? Do you volunteer somewhere? Do you love the outdoors? Bring something to your senior session that shows what you like to do and what is important to you right now. As you get older, those things will change and it will be fun to look back on the days when you were so invested in whatever that thing was.
These are YOUR senior photos. They will be what you look at for years to come to remember this time in your life. Wear something that feels like YOU. Your senior photographer should have help* for you on what kinds of outfits photograph best to help you narrow it down.
*I do! I even have a style guide for you to prepare for your session.
I don’t usually recommend bringing a lot of props to photo sessions (exceptions: see first tip), but flowers can add a little extra interest and beauty to photos! Add a simple feminine touch with a light bouquet of your favorite seasonal florals. Plus, it’s always nice to have flowers, so it’s an excuse to get a bouquet!
Seniors are busy! Make the most of your senior session by having your photos at a location that looks like it’s more than one place. Senior photographers who have done a good job of finding their own locations know and look for this very thing (along with all the other things we look for in locations that are important to creating beautiful images).
First of all, find a photographer who has a style you like. If you don’t like the photos you see on their website, it’s likely you won’t like the photos they give you. Secondly, find someone who knows what they are doing and will make you feel comfortable during your senior photos. But, how do you do this? Look at their work. Is it consistent? What do people say about how their experience was with them? Often times, you’ll see other friends who worked with them and you can ask them directly. Feeling comfortable matters SO much in the final result of the photo. If you feel awkward and uncomfortable, it will show. However, if you are having fun and feeling good about yourself, that will be shown in your photos!
Do you need a senior photographer? I’m booking now for the Class of 2023. The best time for senior photos is the summer before your senior year because schedules get busy and weather gets crazy.
